Parkour Exercise - Reverse Vault

Parkour exercise: How to do the Reverse Vault.

The reverse vault is a cool movement that is often used to vary your flow. It can be performed in a run over a flat surface, but also in a drop, i.e. over an obstacle with a long drop on the other side. Reverse is also one of the most difficult vaults as it contains a rotation.

Learn Reverse Vault, a cool technique to master where you rotate over your obstacle.
Setup

Best practiced on non-slip surfaces that are over 30 cm wide. However, once you have mastered the movement, it can also be done on rails. Reverse should be practiced on an obstacle at hip height.

Execution of Reverse Vault
  • First, decide which way you want to rotate your body when crossing the obstacle. The lead hand is the hand that is to the side you want to rotate to.
  • Place your landing hand on the edge of the surface (grab it if necessary) and place your support hand about two hand widths further in on the obstacle.
  • Land with your legs together and jump over the obstacle while rotating so that your back is first over the top. On the landing, throw your legs upwards in an arc around the side of the landing hand, helping your body to stay up and rotate.
  • At the same time, the kick-off hand releases the surface in the kick-off while supporting on the other hand.
  • Rotate so you see the landing and keep your legs together and slightly bent, while your right hand helps you keep balance, pushing off in a rotational motion and assisting with rotation.
  • When you see the landing, you can spread your legs slightly so you can land effortlessly and with full control.
Pre-exercises

It's often the rotation that causes problems. Start by landing on top of the obstacle to get used to the movement. Once you're comfortable with the exercise, you can build up speed and let your legs swing over so much that you can feel yourself being carried over. Keep your left hand on the surface until you are so far over that you automatically let go and land on the ground.

Problem statement
  • If you have problems with rotation, you can make sure by putting your hand in backwards, i.e. with your fingers pointing towards yourself. This will give you a better chance of pushing off with it.
Variety of options

One-handed Reverse vault:

Performed by placing only the weight-bearing hand on the obstacle. Set off the ground slightly before placing your hand on the ledge. When placing your hand on the ledge, make sure your hand is rotated slightly more clockwise than in a normal reverse vault
