Parkour Exercise - Catleap

Parkour exercise: How to do the Catleap

Catleap is used to land in the climbing position at the top of a wall. This position can be used when you can't get up the wall with wallrun or precision. Catleap can also be used when descending from a high wall.

Cat Leap Parkour
Catleap is used to land in a climbing position at the top of a wall or other obstacle.
Setup

For catleap, use a wall with a rough surface to prevent feet from slipping. The wall should be high enough to allow hanging in the climbing position.

Execution of Catleap
  • Run straight towards the wall.
  • Sit down firmly on one leg about 1.5 meters from the wall and bring your legs together in the air and aim your legs towards the wall at hip height.
  • Land with your toes on the wall and bounce, grasping the edge of the wall with your hands. Continue suspension until the climbing position is reached.
Pre-exercise

Start by hanging in the climbing position on the wall and get a feel for pressing your feet into the wall by placing your feet at hip height.

Problem statement
  • It can often be a problem that you can't get your legs high enough. If this is the case, you can't press your weight into the wall, but instead it will push your body downwards, causing your feet to slip. Therefore, make sure your feet are placed at hip height.
Workout in the gym:

Step by step:

1) Start the exercise by placing a relatively hard wedge mat on the ribs.

2) Have the students hang in the climbing position with their feet on the wedge and their hands on a rib.

3) Replace the wedge with a thin, flat mat. Secure it if possible.

4) Repeat the exercise with hanging in the climbing position.

5) Let them take a run-up to the exercise and, if possible, give them the opportunity to jump into the catleap starting on a step bench.
